Balallan Primary School, Balallan- Isle of Lewis, held Armistice Day events using Poppyscotland education resources. These events successfully raised both money and awareness for Poppyscotland.

Mrs Anne Etta MacLeod, Head Teacher tells us more:

“First we all watched and discussed the DVD 'A chat with...Poppy Scotland' and looked at the information posters. We then held a two minute silence in the playground at 11am.

In the afternoon, our local 'Golden Oldies' group were invited to the school. We had decorated the hall and tables with the Poppy Balloons and we made a Poppy Cake. The pupils asked them questions about their wartime experiences and listened to their stories. The Poppy Cake was then cut by the eldest of our visitors and Mac (a pupil whose birthday is on Nov 11th). Our guests thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the school. Later in the afternoon we then planted poppy seeds in pots in our polytunnel.

We only have 24 pupils in our school but succeeded in raising £65.00 for Poppyscotland”
