About the Competition

Who can enter the competition?

Moving stories is an education competition run by Poppyscotland. This year our theme is ‘90 years of the Poppy – then and now. 1921-2011’.

There are two categories:

  • Category 1: Primary school
  • Category 2: Secondary school

What do we have to do?

Create a short film of up to 5 minutes inspired by the theme ‘90 years of the Poppy – then and now. 1921-2011’. Schools can enter with a script, storyboard or a completed film.

When can we enter the competition?

Entries must be received by Poppyscotland by 5th December 2011.

How do I enter?

Shortlisting of entries will be done by a panel of judges including:

  • Bill Paterson, Actor
  • Tony Kearney, Actor
  • Gary Condie, Determined to Make Movies, Glasgow City Council Education Services
  • Neil McLennan, Quality Improvement Officer (Education, Culture and Sport), Aberdeen City Council, President, Scottish Association of Teachers of History, President, Enterprise Practitioners' Association and Education Writer.
  • Ruth Washbrook, Senior Curator, Scottish Screen Archive
  • Paul McGregor, Learning Projects Coordinator: Children and Young People, Glasgow Film Theatre
  • David Council, Filmmaker, Concept&Graft
  • Isla Campbell Lupton, Education Liaison Officer, Poppyscotland

The top films chosen by the judges will be made or re-made with a filmmaker in January and February 2012. These films will be hosted on our website where the public will vote for the winning film from each category.

What can we win?

Schools will win the chance to work with a filmmaker for a day to make or re-make their films.
