Support to Individuals
Poppyscotland provides direct financial assistance to veterans and their dependants in need.
Last year we helped 1,267 individuals, through one-off and annual grants, totaling £649,717.
We can help with the provision of mobility aids, such as electric-powered vehicles, funding for respite breaks, home repairs and personal needs, such as clothing, travel and medicine.
We also fund an occupational therapist who will visit veterans at home, to conduct a thorough assessment and advise on mobility needs.
To be eligible for help from Poppyscotland you must be a member of the veterans’ community. We define a veteran as anybody who has served in the UK Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve). We also help widows/widowers, spouses and dependants of veterans. The definition is deliberately wide-ranging as we aim to support as many people as we can.
There are other ex-Service organisations in Scotland that offer financial assistance to veterans, including the Army Benevolent Fund, RAF Benevolent Fund and the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust.
If you would like to find out more about how Poppyscotland helps veterans and their dependants in Scotland please contact Gail Beaton in the Charitable Services Department: g.beaton@poppyscotland.org.uk or call us on 0131 550 1557.
