Poppyscotland and SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) worked together to deliver two initiatives to support veterans in Scotland.

In April 2009 a pilot project was launched in Inverclyde to support veterans with problems associated with alcohol misuse. The project was funded by Poppyscotland and delivered by SAMH. At the end of the pilot, SAMH decided to continue the service in the area, offering emotional and practical support to veterans, as well as signposting to specialist ex-Service organisations. 

In May 2009 we jointly hosted a ground-breaking conference with SAMH, sponsored by the Scottish Government. Entitled Uncharted Territory: the Mental Well-being of Scotland’s veterans, the event aimed to raise awareness of the mental health of Scotland’s veterans, share expertise and help develop services for returning veterans and their families.
