Miss Scotland joined top Scottish boxing promoter Tommy Gilmour to present a substantial donation to Poppyscotland. Following a charity boxing show on 14th November run by St Andrew’s Sporting Club, the fantastic sum of £8,315 was raised.
Jennifer Reoch and Tommy Gilmour were joined by soldiers from 2 SCOTS The Royal Regiment of Scotland at the Saltire boxing gym in Paisley as they handed over the donation, which will enable Poppyscotland to provide life-changing support to many veterans in urgent need.
On presenting the donation Jennifer said: “It is a great honour to be part of the celebrations today. Our Servicemen and women are very brave and risk their lives every day. Organisations like Poppyscotland ensure that they get the help they need when they return home and this fantastic donation will go a long way to helping them.”
The charity boxing show took place just after the Scottish Poppy Appeal and promoter Tommy Gilmour was the driving force behind it, securing names from sport and showbiz, including Rangers’ Richard Gough and Walter Smith, Liverpool’s Alan Kennedy and comedian Andy Cameron.
Speaking about the success of the event, Tommy said: “The welfare of our ex-Servicemen and women is a cause close to my heart and I am delighted that that our members and guests have given so generously in support of Poppyscotland. As this time of year, when many people struggle, I am pleased that we can give our veterans an early Christmas present.”
Poppyscotland’s Head of Fundraising Colin Flinn added: “We are very grateful to Tommy and the St Andrew’s Sporting Club for organising a great event and raising vital funds. A growing number of veterans find it difficult to adjust to civilian life and we need to raise money all year round to continue to we will be there for them and their families, both now and in the future. Donations like this really are life-changing for Scotland’s veterans and their families.”
