My father, Trooper A R Baillie, was in the 1st Lothians and Border Yeomanry. He was 19 when he was captured at St Valery, however, he was one of the lucky ones as he lost many friends during that period. He then endured a hellish journey across Europe where the POWs were mistreated by the Germans. He was in captivity for 5 years and was forced to work in terrible conditions, of course he then had to endure the long march before getting home.
There was a happy ending, due to the type of work he had to do as a POW, he had the basics, so went to college and did his apprenticeship and built his house in the 1950s!
