My father, L/Cpl John Grieve, was with the Black Watch in the Regimental band, having joined in 1932. He was captured at St Valery in Jun 1940 and spent the next 5 years as a POW. He was stationed at the Queens Barracks in Perth until he retired in 1954.
We managed to get him to write of his experiences at the age of 84 and were left with a comprehensive account of the capture, journey to Poland and subsequent release and Long March to freedom. His grandchildren and now great-grandchildren are aware of the sacrifice these men made. He died at the age of 97 in 2009.
