Join us in the #22PushUpChallenge

We’re asking supporters to push through the pain barrier and do 22 push ups every day for 22 days in support of veterans suffering from mental health issues.

The background

The #22PushUpChallenge is taking social media by storm. Originating in the United States, it aimed to raise awareness that 22 American Service veterans commit suicide every day.  It has since become a global phenomenon.  Poppyscotland is joining the campaign, and is encouraging our supporters to do likewise.

Mental Health and the Armed Forces community

Poppyscotland research suggests that 1 in 10 veterans in Scotland experience mental health problems. This includes post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety and social isolation. These conditions are debilitating and life-changing, but with the right support they can be overcome.

Make a life-changing difference

Poppyscotland provides a range of support for veterans experiencing mental health problems, including our EmployAble  and Lifeworks programmes, as well as funding specialist organisations such as Combat Stress, HorseBack UK and The Ripple Pond.  By undertaking the #22PushUpChallenge and importantly making a donation, you will be making a life-changing difference to the Armed Forces community, and raising awareness of this important issue.

Next steps

  1. Film yourself doing 22 push ups every day for the next 22 days. Post the video on Facebook – ideally on your own profile and also share it on the Poppyscotland Facebook page too.  (don’t forget to use the #22PushUpChallenge hashtag)
  2. Nominate a different friend each day to undertake the #22PushUpChallenge
  3. Make a donation to support Poppyscotland’s life-changing work. Either text DONATE to 70800 to make a £3 donation*, or even better get a different person to sponsor you £1 each day and at the end of the challenge donate the £22 online here.

Why it’s so important?

Those who we’ve already been able to help say it best:

* Texts cost £3 plus your standard message charge. To opt out of all future communications end your text with NOINFO. Poppyscotland will receive a min of £2.97 depending on your service provider. Helpline 0131 550 1567.
