From our special Arras commemoration, to exciting new projects, 2017 promises to be a special year
I am delighted to welcome you to the Spring issue of Unforgettable Stories, our first newsletter of the year. 2017 is a year we go into with much optimism as we build on the successes of 2016. Successes that were achieved thanks to supporters like you. So, on behalf of the Armed Forces community living in Scotland, I’d like to thank you for all your support.
You have helped us fund 1,469 cases of vital support for veterans and their families, such as immediate needs grants and employment support. Your kindness has enabled our Inverness Welfare Centre to provide crucial help and advice to over 700 members of the Armed Forces community and ensured 225 people benefited from our Poppy Breaks service.
The year then ended quite fantastically as we received news that Poppyscotland had been awarded almost £1 million in grants. Our news roundup tells you more about how the grants are being used to fund two amazing projects in 2017, including a new Poppyscotland Welfare Centre in Ayrshire.
Finally, I’d like to draw your attention to our special website to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Arras. To mark this historic moment we are planning to release 46,000 poppy petals as a moving tribute to the 46,000 Scottish men who were injured or died at Arras. I hope you will want to join us for what I’m sure will be a very poignant event. Thank you once again for all your support.
