Hello, my name is Ronnie Wilson. As a volunteer collector for Poppyscotland, it’s a privilege to be writing the introduction to our latest newsletter, in this, the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Like you, I passionately believe we should never forget the sacrifice tens of thousands of brave Scottish Servicemen made on Flanders Fields. That’s why it’s so heart-warming to see the number of people and organisations taking the centenary Poppy Pledge to raise £1,918.

These Pledges help Poppyscotland to continue to be there for ex-Servicemen and ex-Servicewomen living in Scotland during their own hour of need. If you haven’t yet, I hope that you’ll find inspiration in this newsletter and make your Pledge today. Find out more about the Pledge here.

As a Private who served in the Korean War, 2018 also holds poignancy for me as it’s the 65th anniversary of the end of the conflict. It seems like only yesterday when I made my Pledge to serve my country, I remember asking to go abroad and being told: “Dinnae ye worry, laddie, yer on yer way!”

Like my comrades I didn’t worry, we were proud to serve our country, without question. You can read more about the Korean War here.

I hope you enjoy reading this special edition of Unforgettable Stories and please do take a moment to consider making your own Poppy Pledge.

Thank you.
