NewsVeterans depart Edinburgh for Iceland volcano challenge Hundreds take part in 2015 East Lothian Sportive
Previously known as the Highland Poppy Run, the family-friendly cycling, walking and running event will take place from 1pm on Sunday 13th September, starting and finishing at the historic Fort George, which is unique to any such public event staged in the Highlands. A 5k and 10k route is available for all, with cyclists able to choose an additional 20k option. The event takes place on the quieter country roads around Ardersier and the Moray Coast.
The entry fees are £15 for adults and £7 for children (up to age 13). At the finish, participants will be presented with mementoes by local veterans. Participants are encouraged to raise additional money through sponsorship, either by downloading sponsorship forms from Poppyscotland’s website or creating Just Giving or Virgin Money Giving pages online.
Since the event was started in 2008, it has raised £32,775 for Poppyscotland, helping the charity to deliver a range of year-round support to members of the Armed Forces community.
Danny Streames, Poppyscotland’s Regional Fundraiser for the North of Scotland, said: “We really hope people will sign up to take part in the Ride, Ramble or Run this year. We’ve changed the name to better reflect the three activities on offer but the principle of the event remains the same as does the atmosphere. It’s an event suitable for all abilities and we’re proud that it has become a regular fixture in the area. Importantly, participants have raised vital funds to support Poppyscotland’s work across Scotland, including right here in the Highlands.”
To register, go to the Poppyscotland’s Ride, Ramble or Run Eventbrite page and, for more information, check out the Ride, Ramble or Run Facebook page. Alternatively call Danny Streames at Poppyscotland on 01463 701764 or email email@example.com
Participants may also be interested to note that the Highland Military Tattoo will be taking place on the evenings of 11th, 12th and 13th of September in Fort George. If you are travelling to participate in Poppyscotland’s Ride, Ramble or Run, then please consider staying on to enjoy a spectacular military event.
