Poppyscotland is proud to be the official charity partner of the Galloway Country Fair for the second year in a row. As part of the continuing relationship Poppyscotland will be running a number of fun activities at the event taking place in the grounds of Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August, to raise vital funds.
Poppyscotland collectors with buckets in hand will be visible at the fair offering the public the opportunity to make donations while 20% of programme sales will be donated to the charity. A Poppyscotland stand will display a range of exclusive merchandise.
On the Saturday and Sunday at 11am Poppyscotland will host a Tea & Toast event. This is the charity’s new exciting fundraiser which links into a military tradition of having a cup of tea and a slice of toast – a comforting reminder of home when on operations. On both days, at 2pm, a poppy afternoon tea will take place. Children can take part in a special Poppyscotland treasure hunt with the chance to win a poppy teddy bear. In addition, a Poppyscotland raffle will have some terrific prizes up for grabs!
Poppyscotland’s regional fundraiser for the west of Scotland, Stephen Shirres, expressed the charity’s delight at being the official partner of the event. He said: “We are very grateful to the organisers of the Galloway Country Fair. We have been given a fantastic opportunity to build on last year’s success and have an increased presence at this year’s event.
“We need to raise money all year round to continue support the Armed Forces community. I hope that visitors will see that there are lots of ways to get involved and show their support, while enjoying the many activities on offer.”
Anna Fergusson, Visitor Services Manager for Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate added: “We are thrilled to once again bring a charity element to the Galloway Country Fair. Poppyscotland does some remarkable work all-year-round so it is great we are able to recognise them as our official charity partner for 2016.
“We love the tea and toast and afternoon tea events taking place throughout the weekend and I am confident our visitors will really engage with the activity.
“We have nominated an annual charity since 2014 with a lot of success so hope to raise a healthy amount of money for Poppyscotland over the weekend.”
