Poppyscotland is here for the Armed Forces community throughout this difficult time

2nd April 2020 Fraser Bedwell

In these unprecedented times I am writing to you on behalf of Poppyscotland to assure you that we are still operating and looking after the people who turn to us for help. I would also like to thank you for the support you have shown the charity, which means when we are faced with challenges such as these, we are able to respond in the most effective way possible.

We continue to monitor and respond to Government advice and protecting the health and well-being of the people we support, our staff and volunteers is, and will remain, our priority.  Our welfare services are still very much functioning, although with some slight changes considering the risks currently posed.

Our GetHelp number is fully operational, so if someone you know in the Armed Forces community needs our support, they can continue to contact us on 0131 550 1557 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm).  Out of working hours they should contact the Veterans Gateway on 0808 802 1212.

Poppyscotland’s welfare centres in Inverness and Kilmarnock are now closed until further notice but the respective teams continue to provide support at a local level.  Our grants, employment and armed services advice project also continue to operate albeit remotely.  In these testing times it is very much business as usual with the focus being on remote support rather than face to face.

Importantly, as part of the wider Royal British Legion group of charities, we are committed to playing our part to support our Armed Forces community and our nations. We are encouraging all communities in the UK to join forces to ensure help and care is available for anyone who may be experiencing hardship, loneliness or isolation across society. Through our extensive local networks we are well placed to support the national effort and we are working on plans with partners and other organisations to stand together in face of these difficult and unsettling circumstances.

We couldn’t do what we do without your generous support and I would like to thank you again for the kind donations you have made to Poppyscotland.

Please stay safe, follow the Government’s advice, and through both what we do and how we do it we will continue to play a vital role in supporting our community and nations.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Bibbey
Chief Executive
