My late Father was captured at St Valery. He was serving with the 6th battalion Seaforth Highlanders. He was a despatch rider attached to the Camerons. He was taken to Poland, a place called Thorn, where he was interred for the next 5years. When the Soviet Red Army started to encroach, they were marched through Poland and Germany, across 800 miles in atrocious conditions. I remember him saying it was Monty’s lot who liberated them. He didn’t say much about his time. Now I wish I had asked more and listened more. I am very proud of him and the many who served with him.
